If you reached our True Wireless page from a search engine, we strongly recommend you read our home page for valuable general program information before reading our True Wireless program page.
True Wireless is a Lifeline Assistance provider that offers free phones to customers in Arkansas, Maryland, Texas, Rhode Island, and Oklahoma. Even though they only offer service in a few states right now, they are working on expanding, and are opening new retail stores. Just last September, they announced their first retail store in Oklahoma City. Plans vary by state, so you will need to click first on your own state on the True Wireless plans page, and then look to see what is offered to you. Below are the plans currently being offered.
True Wireless Plans
- Oklahoma: $1/month for unlimited talk and text.
- Texas: 250 minutes of free voice time. Texts free.
- Arkansas: 250 free voice minutes and texts.
- Maryland: 250 free voice minutes and texts.
- Rhode Island: 250 free voice minutes and texts.
As you can see, plans vary quite a bit depending on where you live. The Oklahoma plan is one of the best you are going to find. For just a dollar each month, you can talk on your phone all you want, and send as many texts as you wish to. It doesn’t get cheaper than that. The other plans for the other states are comparable with the majority of Lifeline plans that are out there. At this time, the company does not seem to offer any premium or top-up plans.
Do I Qualify?
If you want to receive a free government cell phone through True Wireless, you will need to be living in one of the qualifying states that the provider serves, and you will need to meet the qualifications for the Lifeline program. You can qualify for Lifeline in one of two ways. Either you must live at or below 135% of the federal poverty level, or you must be receiving aid through a qualifying government assistance program.
|Size of Family||Annual Income|
|For each Additional Person, Add||$5,157|
If you meet the income guidelines above, you should be able to receive a free government cell phone through True Wireless. If you do not, you may still qualify if you are enrolled in a qualifying federal or state program. These are programs such as food stamps, WIC, and SSI. True Wireless is very helpful and provides a list of qualifying programs for each state on the plans pages. So all you need to do to research is click on your state and scroll down. You will see a comprehensive list specific to your own state.
If you meet one or both of the requirements above, you can probably get a cell phone from True Wireless. There are just a couple more requirements you need to meet before you can get your free cell phone. You need to be able to apply from a valid U.S. street address, and you must be the sole subscriber to Lifeline Assistance in your household. At this point in time, the government is only giving out a single Lifeline phone line per household.
How do you apply for True Wireless if you believe you meet all the eligibility requirements? It only takes a few minutes. On the True Wireless plan page for your state, not only will you see a list of applicable state and federal programs, but also a list of program-based documents you can submit to prove that you are receiving assistance. True Wireless also displays income-based documents you can use on that same page. This makes it easy for you to hunt down the documents you need to send along with your application for assistance.
You can apply to True Wireless at one of the company’s retail locations in person, or you can choose to do it online. You can send your application electronically or you can go through fax or mail. You can use the same methods to send your verification paperwork (your documentation proving your income or program participation).
True Wireless may only be serving a small geographic region at this time, but they have some very competitive plans, and their plan for Oklahoma residents is particularly exciting. If you live in one of the states served by True Wireless, it is well worth your time to drop by their website and have a look at what they can offer you.
